The 2009 Festival of Speed – held this year over the weekend of 3-5 July – will honour motorsport’s endurance heroes with a celebration of Le Mans’ 60th anniversary. ‘The Festival will pay tribute to the men who fought against the odds on the track and won,’ Lord March told CAR Online. ‘With drivers like Jochen Mass, Jacky Ickx, Jackie Stewart and Sterling Moss joining us – drivers that went the extra mile in the pursuit of victory – I’m really looking forward to seeing some of the great endurance drivers, riders and machines in action.’
The Festival will also take in a number of other important anniversaries – both Audi and Morgan will be celebrating their centenaries, the Mini will turn 50, and it will mark 40 years of Frank Williams’ involvement in Formula 1.
The launch edition of the CLA AMG – the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 (pictured) has been revealed
Launch editions are a way to tempt buyers in to a new model in quick sticks, so Mercedes has revealed the launch model for the new CLA45 – the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Edition 1. Frankly, we’d be surprised if MB has any real trouble finding buyers for the CLA 45 AMG, but a launch edition with extra goodies is always a ‘nice to have’, and the CLA45 version looks appealing. The changes aren’t huge for the Edition 1, but they do include a gloss black spoiler at the back, graphite grey side stripes, a set of 19″ matte black alloys and red detailing for the mirrors, wheels and grill.
Zagato recently unveiled their bespoke Ferrari 575GTZ at Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance in Italy. Zagato, based in nearby Milan, was commissioned by Japanese collector Yoshiyuki Hayashi to create a new body for his 575M in the style of the 250GTZ Berlinetta. Despite the same underpinnings as the 575M the whole car has been remodelled, striking a balance between its Fifties forebear and more contemporary Ferraris.
